The Opportunity

As a dedicated Quantitative Risk Analyst for our Asset/Liability Management Risk Analytics team (2nd Line Risk Function), you will be focusing on deep independent analysis of on-balance sheet consumer lending origination volumes, prepayments, weighted average lives, as well as reviewing FTP Methodologies and risk-based pricing frameworks including RAR and RAROC.

The ideal candidate will provide risk management support for a line of business or staff agency in key risk identification, measurement and aggregation, and the understanding and management of risk through appropriate quantitative and analytical practices and processes. Conducts and develops quantitative and analytic models, assessments and/or applications in support of risk management efforts that assess the market and identify risks and gaps in existing or proposed processes. Applies diverse methodologies and deep experience in quantitative analytics to identify and solve complex and/or undefined risk problems. Monitors the risk and control environment to ensure that exposures are kept at acceptable levels and may consult on risk mitigation plans. Works with leadership to remediate gaps and improvements identified between existing practices and regulatory requirements.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:
  • Apply sophisticated analytics to assess future risk, opportunities, and effectiveness and translates results into substantial solutions to enhance decision making.
  • Assesses and mitigates exposures through the identification of key and emerging risks in alignment with the risk strategy and appetite.
  • Applies knowledge to produce analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand complex business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Produces and communicates analytical content for discussions with cross functional teams, governance committees and business process owners to influence business strategies.
  • May create statistical reporting and financial analysis to forecast results for required stress test scenarios, including analyzing and challenging stress testing results and partnering with relevant functions to validate those results.
  • May engage in model validations, produce model validation reports, measure, and aggregate model risks, and/or report on model issues to committees, auditors, and regulators.


What you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative field OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree (8 years total).
  • Minimum 4 years' related quantitative analysis experience in a field relevant to risk management to include statistical analysis, modeling, mathematics, or another quantitative field. OR advanced degree/designation in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative field and 2 years' work experience in a quantitative field relevant to risk management. OR PhD with equivalent experience in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or another quantitative field.


What sets you apart:
  • Financial background working using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Data visualization and presentation, via SAS, Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of basic concepts related to lending/pricing, funds transfer pricing (FTP), and return-based metrics such as RAR, ROE and RAROC.
  • Understanding of Basel III Internal Ratings based on advanced approach for capital estimation is a plus.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $95,250 - $182,330

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
