This team is charged with developing new and innovative insurance products as well as managing our growing and increasingly diversified national portfolio of admitted and surplus lines products. More flexible and fast-paced than a traditional carrier, we are looking for individuals with a variety of insurance backgrounds who are energized by a highly collaborative environment and are seeking opportunities to build products, process, and structure from the ground up!

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Product Manager/Sr Product Manager to support our commercial casualty and professional lines segments. As a member of the insurance product management function, you will work closely with business partners, IT and compliance to build differentiated new programs via our modern technology platform. You will also be responsible for analyzing the health of existing programs to ensure ongoing profitability, strong competitive position and compliance with local regulations. Above all, you will be a thought partner with the casualty and professional lines segment leaders, proactively making recommendations to improve product line efficacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Product Team, internal and external associates, distribution partners and vendors to support introduction of new products, enhancements to existing products, and/or entry into new markets to reach company profit and growth targets
  • Collaborate with business partners throughout the organization on the rate and rule revision process, including confirming scope and timelines, preparing filings to be submitted to state insurance departments (where relevant on admitted lines), coordinating responses to regulator questions, and implementing final revisions
  • Work closely with business segment leaders, actuarial, claims, and data group to understand the internal book of business of your product areas and recommend strategies to improve rate adequacy, underwriting, and increasing market share.
  • Apply mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze profitability and competitive position on a state and program basis.
  • Proactively evaluate form, underwriting, claims and distribution opportunities making recommendations on actions to improve product performance. Implement, evaluate and adjust proposals.
  • Lead competitive intelligence efforts for product lines by, reviewing insurance company filings, in particular rate algorithms, underwriting guidelines, and forms, along with industry and regulatory changes to provide recommendations that will improve product launches, changes, and enhancements.
  • Flex across varied stakeholders to develop plan for key strategic priorities while also supporting day to day product functions.
  • Other duties as needed to support our growing organization

What You'll Need (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Related experience in insurance product management or underwriting for commercial lines. Minimum 10 years of experience in the insurance industry
  • Track record of successful CPCU and/or actuarial exam completions
  • Well organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Desire to solve problems, think analytically and move quickly to build new programs
  • High degree of flexibility and comfort responding to changing business needs
  • Self-motivated with a can-do attitude
  • Ability to work as a team player to deliver results effectively and efficiently to a variety of customers


Bonus Points (Preferred Skills & Experience)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as product manager, analyst, or underwriter in commercial casualty and liability lines.
  • Experience managing new product development lifecycle.
  • Experience managing rate adequacy analysis and portfolio transformation analysis.
