Responsibilities

The Ascension Data Sciences Institute (ADSI) was created in July 2019 with the mission of supporting Ascension in achieving its Quadruple Aim with uniquely skilled, high-performing associates who develop analyses, models and applications to enable Ascension in providing higher value healthcare and making strategic decisions. ADSI is comprised of 6 domains addressing 1) Clinical quality and patient safety; 2) Health Economics and Clinical Outcomes; 3) Strategic Operations and Financial Analytics; 4) Actuarial and Managed Care Analytics; 5) Registry Abstraction Healthcare Solutions; and 6) Healthcare Data Intelligence. We recognize that the healthcare environment is a complex ecosystem of rapidly evolving clinical and economic practices that affect patient and provider experience and demands increasingly sophisticated and complex measurement. Our objective is for advanced analytics and data science to play a critical and foundational role in the transformation of care delivery, quality and financial outcomes to enable our organization's competitive advantage.

We are hiring a Lead Analyst on the Community Risk Analytics team to support Ascension's Health Equity and Community Impact initiatives.

In this position, you will be involved in designing analytics and reporting to assess and monitor trends in health equity, including the overall health and well-being of vulnerable populations we serve. You will be expected to work with data management teams to compile datasets from a variety of sources to provide a comprehensive picture of medical and non-medical determinants of health and healthcare utilization. Your work will directly impact health care for vulnerable populations.

You will apply logic to various data sources to develop metrics and report on risks across multiple domains including preventive care, social determinants of health, modifiable behaviors and chronic disease burden. As a liaison between analytics and various national and market-level stakeholders, you will need to have expertise in creating customer-facing reports and self-service visualizations and communicating with clinical stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead reporting for data analysis teams and projects writing queries and functional reporting design documents
  • Lead development of reporting dashboards and data visualizations to support various clinical stakeholders
  • Identify data trends, make recommendations for improvement, design and implement projects requiring systems integration, small teams and multiple technical platforms
  • Coordinate across functional and data teams to ensure consistency and optimization of the overall work product. Suggest solutions, improvements, and efficiencies in data quality and management.
  • Mentor the work of less experienced analysts.
  • Assume a proactive role in driving improvement activities to achieve department and organizational goals to deliver value.
  • Write complex SQL or similar queries, use statistical programming languages, and develop complex visualizations.


Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Masters preferred in the area of Health Informatics, Public Health, Healthcare Data Science/Analytics, Biostatistics, or Economics
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience required, some leadership experience recommended
  • Strong SQL and Tableau skills required
  • Experience working with EMR and adjudicated claims data
  • Experience working collaboratively with Clinical Stakeholders preferred
  • Experience with data visualization preferred
  • Project Management skills a plus
  • Experience with BigQuery and Google Cloud Platform a plus
  • Experience with a programming language such as R or Python a plus


Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate'

    degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific

    experience required. 2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
