The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Munich Re F&C North America, your primary responsibility will be to achieve F&C's strategic objectives to grow the Property Fac business through a continued focus on profitability while allowing for more premium growth, and to be recognized as a valued consultant & large capacity provider to our clients.

Your Job

  • Develop and Implement F&C US strategic plans to identify opportunities to diversify the portfolio , increase line sizes on profitable accounts and expand client relationships, and shift small & medium sized business to automated solutions via direct marketing of our program & platform capabilities.
  • Lead and manage a team of experienced underwriters located in various locations across the US
  • Manage the underwriting process to ensure efficiency as well as underwriting and pricing integrity of the portfolio.
  • Ensure underwriting practices are consistent with MR Group, MRF&C and US local guidelines, Best Practices and underwriting strategies. Identify deficiencies in underwriting, implement corrective actions and provide guidance/training for the development of underwriters.
  • Delegate underwriting authority to staff, ensure underwriters have a clear understanding of underwriting and pricing guidelines and are proficient in the use of all applicable underwriting and pricing tools.
  • Provide insight into the quantitative and qualitative analyses of results for the Property Fac Portfolio in conjunction with F&C Operations, Reserving and FMR.
  • Take the lead in creating solutions and resolving problems involving other functional units such as Client Management, Underwriting Support, Pricing, and GC/NA.


Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:

  • 10 + years of experience in (re)insurance underwriting, broker community or corporate risk market
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, advanced degree a plus
  • Demonstrated superior leadership and management skills in a large corporate environment
  • Ability to develop and execute plans and to provide strategic direction to the development and achievement of unit goals
  • Underwriting expert level knowledge of applicable Property Lines of Business
  • In-depth knowledge of the US insurance and reinsurance markets
  • High level of actuarial understanding and demonstrated competency using -underwriting tools and systems.
  • High level of reinsurance contract (terminology) understanding and ability to develop alternative clauses where necessary
  • Exceptional communication skills that energize and engage clients and colleagues, with the ability to convey a vision and client-focused solutions
  • Tech savviness and a willingness to experiment with and learn new technologies
  • Willingness to travel 30%

The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including NYC. The salary range posted below applies to the Company's NYC location.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $294,300 to 431,600 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in NYC. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
