As the Director of Religious Organizations, you will develop and manage the execution of business plans through leadership of diverse underwriting team in a defined regional territory. You will provide foundational knowledge of the Religious Organizations niche, and field insight for establishing/maintaining relationships with key agency partners to achieve corporate goals and objectives. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively engaged in the development of territory/state business plans for the Religious Organizations niche within assigned geographic territory.
- Manages portfolio to ensure book of business is tracking with established goals and/or key performance metrics and initiate corrective action, as needed.
- Develops and maintains key agency relationships within territory to facilitate production of new business opportunities and strong retention of desirable in-force portfolio, including to help facilitate negotiating coverage, pricing and other issues that arise.
- Expertly handles escalated underwriting decisions from a portfolio team leader or underwriter.
- Collaborates with multiple internal functional units and a diverse and multi-faceted national distribution force.
- Oversees ongoing analysis of departmental workflows, considering and implementing improvements that will enhance service and reduce expenses.
- Leads a diverse team of portfolio management leaders and professional underwriters towards achieving individual, department, division, and enterprise goals.
- Recruits, hires, and trains new portfolio leaders and underwriters and provide continuous feedback to foster employee development to strengthen the team.
- Oversees the quality and quantity of work produced in responsible underwriting unit, including the setting of SMART goals.
- Monitors Service Level Agreements and takes corrective actions as needed.
- Coaches and develops staff by taking ownership, being accountable and setting an example for the department and team by:
- Communicating honestly and acting with integrity.
- Completing and submitting timely performance reviews.
- Promoting corporate rewards and recognition programs.
- Mentoring and developing The Mutual Group's future leaders.
- Key stakeholder and collaborator in the development or modification of LOAs, products and underwriting guidelines with Product Management and Corporate Underwriting and pricing needs with Actuarial.
- Operationalize strategic initiatives within the Religious Organizations niche and audits to ensure moving in the direction towards desired outcome.
- Act as SME for the Religious Organizations niche to advise business segment leadership on profitability trends, growth opportunities, market conditions and competitor intelligence.
- Consults with distribution, claims, underwriting, compliance and legal departments to resolve complex issues.
- Develop and effectively manage assigned budget.
- Identify product management and insurance industry trends.
- Participate on a variety of committee and task force assignments as needed.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Skills & Requirements Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
- CPCU or similar insurance related designation preferred.
- Ten (10) years of underwriting experience within the P&C Commercial Lines industry. Product development and management experience desirable.
- Five (5) years of increasing supervisory responsibility.
- Demonstrated background in handling complex underwriting and implementation of underwriting standards for risk, selection and pricing.
- Advanced knowledge of underwriting and strong ability to develop underwriting standards for risk, selection and pricing.
- Familiar with a variety of moderate to complex commercial underwriting and management concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to expertly troubleshoot and resolve customer concerns.
- Demonstrated ability to work, collaborate and communicate effectively on cross-functional, internal and external teams.
- Ability to develop and enhance business relationships with senior leadership and internal and external customers that lead to a profitable portfolio of business.
- Strong presentation skills; ability to tailor to variety of audiences.
Compensation:
- $127,800 - $213,000 commensurate with experience, plus bonus eligibility
- $140,700 - $234,500 commensurate with experience in CA, CT, MA, NJ, NY, and PA, plus bonus eligibility
