Your Tasks

As part of a small dynamic team, you will have the optimal opportunity to learn or expand your acumen in the art and science of reinsurance treaty underwriting. You perform both administrative and analytical duties associated with underwriting Property & Casualty treaty business and you are responsible for maintaining and developing cedant and broker relationships.
  • Underwrite terms and conditions of new and renewal accounts by collecting, reviewing, and analysing account information in conjunction with proper risk assessment in line with risk appetite
  • Gain proficiency with internal pricing and aggregate modelling tools
  • Negotiate competently with brokers and clients, providing constructive feedback and offering solution driven options when required
  • Make presentations on larger accounts outside of underwriting authority with ability to articulate and support pricing thought processes in a clear, cohesive and succinct manner
  • Execute strategic underwriting plans aligned with profitability objectives and service excellence
  • Effectively communicate with, Actuarial, Legal, Accounting and Underwriting Service Departments on issues that involve pricing, contract wording, premium and loss bookings, as well as, claims to ensure profitability of accounts and compliance with corporate guidelines
  • Develop, maintain and service a profitable book of business; participate in customer account renewal meetings and underwriting audits
  • Provide best in class solution driven customer service to brokers and cedants
  • Maintain electronic files in accordance to and in compliance with corporate guidelines
  • Data entry associated to underwriting and booking of accounts


Your Profile

  • 6+ years Underwriting experience, preferably Property & Casualty business (Primary or Reinsurance)
  • Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management, Finance or related field from an accredited college/university
  • All round awareness of those aspects of the insurance industry that have a direct bearing on key responsibilities and accountabilities
  • A high level of numeracy and literacy
  • Competent IT skills with a high comfort/proficiency with Excel
  • Organised, with good planning/time management skills to achieve tight deadlines/targets
  • Comfortable working in a small team and ability to work effectively both independently and in conjunction with other members of the team
  • Travel required (not at the moment due to COVID-19).
  • Proficient user skills in English (level C2) and conversational skills (at least level B2) in French
