Role Purpose:

Oversight and support of Regional Underwriting, write profitable International Accident and Health business in line with the underwriting plan to achieve target premium revenue. Leading Product Development of new and existing products and project manage A&H initiatives. Portfolio management of existing business. Operate in line with Underwriting Framework and general compliance/regulatory and Company procedures

Role and Responsibilities:

- To write profitable business in line with the underwriting plan, using professional judgement to achieve the target premium revenue, return on premium and business growth.

- Contribute to formulating strategy on region, channel and product level opportunities Develop IPMI strategic account partnerships, building broker relationships and optimise opportunities to lead business.

- Oversight of Regular reporting at board and leadership committees. To manage underwriting risk exposures through aggregate limits and reinsurance. Lead reinsurance treaty renewals - obtain best possible RI deal for Starr.

- To manage regional new business and renewal direct referrals - assess deal level profitability and ensure in line with underwriting framework and risk appetite.

- Address poor performing accounts and upcoming renewals, local teams to share analysis and recommendations to clients with remediations (as necessary) for product changes and/or commercial terms - leading changes from proposal to implementation.

- Leading product development from idea to launch through each stage of the product cycle; Ensure product framework/parameters are in line with underwriting guidelines.

Project management - lead project streams related to international A&H projects. ensure project fulfils internal functional requirements successfully, internal reporting and external regulatory requirements.

- Pricing review - ensuring pricing adheres to tools, follows credible source statistics and / or internal experience. Post-remediation review to demonstrate that pricing fulfils profitable P&L view.

Experience

- 15-20 years' experience;

- Advanced knowledge of specific class of business within A&H;

- A genuine interest in the Accident & Health and Travel markets and customer journey awareness

- Strong technical insurance pricing background with an in depth understanding of the A&H market Reinsurance practices - not exhaustive to proportional and non-proportional reinsurance;

- Portfolio Management - capabilities to view portfolios consistently and demonstrate UW best practice;

- Project Management - track record to take projects from initiation to launch/implementation;

- Account Management - building and managing strategic relationships within A&H product providers;

- Experience in juggling different tasks/projects and priorities within an organisation in front of stakeholders at various levels of the organisation.

- Knowledge and experience of Financial Conduct Authority, Maltese Financial Services Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority framework; international application would be advantageous.

- Good business acumen, the ability to balance creativity with strong commercial delivery.

- Proven track record of developing and managing underwriting & pricing team members.

- Excellent attention to detail/ analytically focused and a strong understanding of data manipulation.

- Strong command of MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint (intermediate/advanced).

- Strong organisational skills, knowing where to pitch results and detail findings relevant to the audience Negotiation, judgement and decision making skills;

- Analytical and problem solving skills; Professional business writing and presentation skills; Strong communicator, both written (reports) and verbal (presentations); including ability to influence

Qualifications

- AIA or equivalent insurance qualification Educated to degree level in a numerate subject (Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Science preferred).
