Description

Balance Sheet Management (BSM) is a leading department of Athora Belgium, which is specialised in meeting business needs with respect to actuarial reporting & balance sheet management. Our team consists of actuaries who contribute to the company's overall decision making, by providing timely, accurate and relevant information, analysis and capital management actions.

The BSM department actively contributes to the modelling and reporting in accordance with the latest regulatory (Solvency II) and accounting (IFRS17) requirements, Capital Management, ALM, new business profitability, and strategic balance sheet operations (M&A, reinsurance etc.).

This team consists of 6 colleagues, and we are looking for reinforcements to succeed in meeting our ambitious goals!

Your responsibilities

As BSM Actuary, you will mainly contribute to the Capital Management, Valuation, Solvency and IFRS17 related topics, you are therefore responsible for e.g.:
  • Being a key contributor of the yearly capital management plan process.
  • Producing and enhancing the Analysis of Change analysis on a quarterly basis.
  • Producing the monthly forecast of the Solvency II position.
  • Contributing on the calibration and documentation of the non-economic assumptions (expense, mortality, lapse, etc.).
  • Measuring, supervising, optimising, and reporting on the various components of Life Technical Provisions, the Risk Capital models under Solvency II, IFRS 17 and BMA regulatory frameworks on a quarterly and yearly basis.
  • Communicating to business stakeholders and contributing to the different internal (local and Group) committees.
  • Participating in transversal Balance Sheet Management projects (M&A, internal and external reinsurance implementation/review, portfolio transfer process, actuarial software migration etc.).
  • Optimizing existing framework by improving the processes, controls, documentation.


Your profile
  • You have a university degree, ideally in either economics, mathematics, or actuarial science.
  • You have at least 3 years of experience in a similar role, with experience in (re)insurance type of regulatory reporting.
  • You have a strong knowledge of Solvency II, life (re)insurance modelling, and are comfortable with coding in various actuarial software languages (e.g., Risk Agility, Prophet, Moses, ...).
  • You have strong modelling capabilities and programming skills (SAS, Python, R, VBA).
  • You are an experienced user of MS Office.
  • You are a native French or Dutch speaker with good command of the other national language and can work in English.
  • You have the necessary analytical skills to challenge the results/figures constructively.
  • You are able to effectively and clearly present findings to senior and management stakeholders.
  • You are able to work and learn quickly in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills, with ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
