Job Description

Sompo is seeking a Casualty Pricing Actuary to join our North America Pricing team in our New York City office.

As a Casualty Pricing Actuary, you will focus on the pricing of Casualty products including Excess Casualty, General Liability, and Environmental. You will serve as a key liaison between the North America Pricing team and the underwriters. This position offers opportunities to engage in a diverse array of projects and actively contribute to the team's overarching goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct profitability studies to ensure sustainable growth and profitability
  • Partner with underwriters to identify pockets of opportunity, remediate underperforming segments, and develop strategic initiatives
  • Quantify the impact of prior underwriting changes and assess new strategies to improve the portfolio
  • Build predictive models utilizing internal and external data to deepen business insights
  • Develop and oversee dashboards showcasing key metrics such as rate adjustments, business composition, loss trends, etc.
  • Design and oversee data pipelines to improve the team's analytics capabilities
  • Continuously review and refine Sompo's rating and pricing models to ensure they are current, accurate, and consistent
  • Participate in projects involving other products and group pricing initiatives, ensuring varied exposure and skill enhancement
  • Maintain awareness of the latest technological advancements and industry trends to improve existing processes and capabilities
  • Provide transactional support as needed


Qualifications:
  • Actuarial experience in Commercial Excess Casualty, General Liability, and/or Construction products
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or currently in process of obtaining FCAS designation
  • In-depth knowledge of standard actuarial methods and best practices
  • Comprehensive understanding of a commercial insurance company's multifaceted operations
  • Technical proficiencies in Microsoft Excel and preferably a programming language (Python, R, SQL, DAX)
  • Ability to effectively analyze problems, develop innovative solutions, and independently manage multiple projects


Salary Range: $110,000 - $175,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience
