The Role

Canopius is seeking a highly motivated Reinsurance claims professional with knowledge of managing standard and complex claims matters. The individual will proactively adjust a variety of standard and complex claims from their initial notification through to settlement. This person will proactively manage Reinsurance claims in a professional, timely and fair manner and to ensure that you deliver excellent customer service to both our internal and external customers.

The Reinsurance claims team is a fundamental pillar and an integral part of the global claims function. The successful individual would be managing reinsurance claims within the global reinsurance portfolio embracing the group claims vision "to continually push the boundaries of customer excellence through an empowered, collaborative and innovative approach to claims; to be the envy of the market" and is at the core of everything we do.

Responsibilities will include:
  • To proactively adjust standard and complex lead claims within their claim's authority and in accordance with the established claim manual meeting all regulatory requirements, ensuring that controls are operating effectively and by achieving Key Performance Indicators.
  • To monitor circumstances that may turn into claims whether in relation to individual risks or global events, such as major Catastrophes or significant losses of interest.
  • Ensuring that adequate financial provisions, in accordance with the Canopius Reserving Philosophy, are held for every claim that you own.
  • Monitor the profitability of the accounts in the reinsurance claims portfolio by reviewing actual versus expected and provide meaningful input into claims MI reports, monthly tracking meetings, quarterly reserving meetings and to flag areas of the claims portfolio that are underperforming to underwriters, actuaries, and management.
  • Ensuring that every claim is regularly reviewed and proactively managed to resolution, through effective diary management.
  • Ensuring and delivering excellent claims service to all customers, by effectively driving claims through to resolution.
  • Communicate proactively with internal and external stakeholders, both in writing and verbally ensuring excellent customer service to cedants, brokers, follow market, underwriters, actuaries, and senior management.
  • To act as referral, point for more junior claims adjusters and assist claims manager in their training and development.
  • To be able independently identify and conduct cedant audits and report and act on the outcome.
  • Make proactive and meaningful contributions to all project work in order to drive meaningful change and ensure the contribution to the projects they participate in.
  • To continuously look for better ways of doing things and to suggest process or other enhancements, where appropriate. To ensure effective oversight and control of any outsource partners who may contribute to the handling of claims in your portfolio flagging and remediating any issues of concern.
  • To flag any issues of concern to the Claims Manager and Head of Reinsurance.
Essential Skills & Experience

Candidates should have experience with reviewing and assessing policy coverage for Reinsurance claims with complementary skillsets, including high level of communication competencies between internal and external stakeholders and knowledge of the global market as a senior claim's professional. The successful candidate will also have experience of leading complex claims, leading market meetings, managing legal and non legal experts to drive forward claims strategies with the ability to lead and influence follow market participants.

Candidates will have key personal skills including:
  • Experienced claims practitioner with extensiveAbi, experience in handling Reinsurance claims ideally in a lead capacity.
  • Has built solid relationships with clients and demonstrates strong client management skills.
  • Understanding and application of legal and regulatory issues.
  • Technical competency and expertise; a desire for excellence and high personal standards.
  • A positive, enthusiastic, and confident disposition.
  • A passion for learning and a keen interest in current events.
  • A strategic thinker with strong communication skills; able to articulate their point of view in a clear and considered manner.
  • Professional approach to interact appropriately with peers and management.
