Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the retirement saving and income solutions market, is seeking an Intern-Actuary to work in the Statutory Valuation Team. This position will work in our home office in Topeka, Kansas or our Overland Park, Kansas office. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

What Does the Job Look Like?

The Intern will be exposed to many aspects of the company's activities, especially the day-to-day operations of the Statutory Valuation Team. This position comes with immense opportunity for personal and professional growth.

• Assist with updating and improving reports, spreadsheets, and documentation.

• Assist the Statutory Reserves Team

• Validate data and create or update periodic or ad hoc reports.

• Develop and utilize tools in support of statutory reserve calculations.

• Take on special projects as assigned.

Who Are You?

Students eligible for the internship will be full-time students, available to work approximately 10-20 hours per week. Students will be expected to work during the semester and have the opportunity to work up to full-time in between semesters and during the summer. This is not a summer only internship.

• Full-time college student pursuing degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance or Computer Science at the freshman level or higher

• Commitment to pursue an actuarial credential demonstrated by preparation for Society of Actuaries-administered exams or exam credit.

• Advanced Excel knowledge/skill required.

• Experience with SQL coding highly preferred.

• Experience with Visual Basic coding, Access, and/or any high-level or object-oriented programming language preferred.

• Strong GPA in major and in all areas of study

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Proven organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines required.

• Accuracy and the ability to be very detail oriented are crucial.

• Ability to work independently and take initiative.

• Ability to interact professionally with all contacts.
