Job Description:

In this role, you will be responsible to review and enhance the overall IFRS 17 reporting process, including strengthening the controls and analytics. Working closely with other Business-as-Usual (BAU) team, you will also be responsible for identifying areas for improvement and enhancing the efficiency and automation for other key Actuarial BAU process, as well as proactively generating innovative ideas and solutions to improve financial and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

Process improvement for valuation and other Actuarial BAU processes:
  • Work closely with the other teams in SLHK (e.g., valuation, finance, etc.) to identify pain-point in the current IFRS 17 BAU reporting process, and propose solution to improve the efficiency and automation of the overall valuation process.
  • Review the existing control built in the IFRS 17 valuation process and take the lead in identifying areas of improvement. Work closely with the relevant BAU teams to implement the control enhancement in the valuation process.
  • Strengthen the IFRS 17 analytics (e.g., drivers of earnings, liability roll-forward, etc.) to enable management having a more timely review and comprehensive understanding of the IFRS 17 results
  • Identify areas for improvement and enhance the efficiency and automation for other key Actuarial BAU processes (e.g., experience studies, business planning, etc.).


Financial optimization
  • Understand the drivers behind key financial reporting metrics (e.g., IFRS 17 earnings and CSM, Value of New Business, HK Risk Based Capital, etc.) and look for and design innovative ideas and solutions to further optimize these metrics.
  • Work closely with relevant BAU teams to set out clear timetable and implement the identified financial optimization initiatives in the regular valuation process.
  • Maintain close working relationship with different stakeholder within the actuarial teams and other departments (e.g., Finance, Product, IT, etc.) in local office, Asia Regional Office and Corporate Office, in facilitating an efficient implementation of the identified financial optimization initiatives.
  • Present the outcomes of various financial optimization initiatives in a clear and concise manner to team head and management.


Other BAU and Project support on needs basis:
  • Coordinate the production of various actuarial reports as needed (e.g., Appointed Actuary Report, experience studies report, etc.)
  • Provide ad-hoc support other BAU teams as needed
  • Provide other ad-hoc projects support to the Chief Actuary


Requirements
  • Degree in Actuarial Science or any related disciplines
  • Attained fellowship of a recognized actuarial institute
  • At least 6 years of working experience within life insurance industry
  • Experience in IFRS 17 reporting and valuation
  • Experience in Actuarial software such as AXIS and/or Prophet ALS an advantage
  • Good planning and project management skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrate initiative, commitment, and high level of creativity for proposing recommendations for improving current process pro-actively
  • Take ownership of projects assigned, and have the ability to drive project forward
  • Able to solve problems that may not have a clear path to solutions, and shift priorities in response to change in circumstances
  • Able to work independently in an agile manner with minimal supervision
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills on both English and Chinese
