The vacancy

Role Purpose

The PPF Team provides specialist actuarial, administration and defined benefits pension consultancy services to pension scheme trustees, the Pension Protection Fund and other third parties. The role involves working with colleagues in Broadstone, the Pension Protection Fund, independent trustees and other third parties.

The PPF Team help schemes with insolvent employers through the PPF assessment period, making sure that members of these schemes get correct benefits and the best possible outcome, whether that is transfer to the PPF or buyout with an insurance company. Due to continued success the team is looking for trainees to grow the existing team. There will be opportunities for the right candidate to specialise in administration, actuarial, systems, accounts or other areas. Responsibilities may include analysing data, preparing calculations, and producing letters and reports for review by colleagues.

Key Accountabilities
  • Liaising with Broadstone colleagues and external third parties
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with Broadstone standards
  • Data collection and entry; setting up and maintaining membership records on the administration system
  • Analysing data and identifying potential errors, inaccuracies or incomplete data records
  • Carrying out technical calculations relating to individual members of pension schemes for review by colleagues e.g., retirements, deaths, auditing and rectifying benefits, reconciling and equalising for GMPs
  • Dealing with general queries by telephone, email, and letter
  • Recording tasks and time on internal systems
  • Assisting other departments as needed
  • Other ad hoc duties as designated by Team Leaders, Managers or Directors

Technical Knowledge and Professional Qualifications
  • The role assumes no prior knowledge of the UK pensions industry
  • Mathematics 'A' level (or international equivalent) at grade A or B minimum
  • Numerate degree would be an advantage but not necessary
  • Professional qualification routes available

Key Skills
  • Highly numerate, accurate, and literate
  • Ability to readily absorb technical information
  • Strong team-working and communication skills
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to manage own work within strict deadlines
  • Computer literacy including familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint an advantage

  • Achieve a good standard of ethical behaviour, i.e. do the right thing at all times.
  • Comply with all relevant professional standards.
  • Comply with the FCA's requirements in relation to the Senior Managers & Certification Regime, Treating Customers Fairly and the new Consumer Duty.
