TITLE: HR Benefits Specialist

REPORTS TO: VP Human Resources

STATUS: Salaried

SALARY: $58,000.00 - $62,000.00

LOCATION: Columbus, OH - Hybrid

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

JOB SUMMARY: The Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, supplemental health, and 401(k) plan.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Administers various employee benefit programs, such as group insurance; life, medical, dental, and vision, accident and disability insurance, 401k plan.
  • Coordinates personnel procedures to initiate benefits such as pensions, disability insurance, medical and life insurance.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Initiates medical and option forms and/or affidavits; arranges for their completion and submission within time limits.
  • Implements new benefit programs; arranges and conducts employee information presentations and enrollments.
  • Verifies the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintains statistical data relative to premiums, claims, and costs. Resolves administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
  • Administers the personnel function of the Savings and Investment Plan in coordination with the Finance and Data Processing departments.
  • Researches annual lists of present, new, and former 401k plan participants for all pertinent data.
  • Submits data and documents to the appropriate committee, trustee, or actuary.
  • Maintains Workers Compensation for monopolistic states as well as reporting for CHUBB Worker's Compensation Policy.
  • Maintains files of pension plan history, pension data, correspondence, reports, and forms. Initiates record keeping and retrieval methods in compliance with government regulations.
  • Prepares government reports; assists comptroller's department in preparation of reports and forms.
  • Administers the open enrollment process and updating HRIS as applicable.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Adhere to and be compliant, as applicable, with GLBA, FCRA, FCPA, FHA, ECOA, CAN-SPAM as well as all other federal, state and local laws, and company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma plus additional courses or seminars related to benefits administration and/or processing preferred.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years in benefits or related clerical or administrative duties.
  • Knowledge of Self-Insured Medical Plan.
  • Involves frequent contact with personnel inside and outside the company requiring reasonable tact, discretion, self-expression, and a working knowledge of the benefits, policies, and procedures.

  • Experience with teleconferencing
  • Access to a quiet workspace


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the responsibilities of the job, the person in this position will be required to frequently communicate information so others will understand. The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time and must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. The person in this position may need to occasionally move about the inside of an office. The person in this position may need to position self to maintain files in a cabinet and place computers under a desk or in a cabinet. This position requires ability to constantly observe typewritten text on a computer screen. The person in this role is required to operate a laptop and use a telephone regularly. The person in this position may be required to travel throughout the USA by automobile or airplane which may require overnight lodging.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the person in this role may be in a stationary position in an office setting and may be exposed to quiet to moderate noise level.
