The Opportunity

About Parametric NatCat

Munich Re has formed a global parametric team focusing on natural catastrophe risk transfer solutions, bringing together experienced colleagues from around the world. The team combines specialists in product development, catastrophe risk modelling, underwriting and structuring to improve resilience of public bodies, corporations and financial institutions, both in low-income and highly developed countries.

We are an agile, open & highly business-driven team with a global footprint operating out of Munich, Zurich, New York/NY and Chicago/IL offices while deploying complimentary skill sets and backgrounds in transactional & exploratory teams. We are on a successful journey to our 2030 financial ambition and have engaged in various initiatives to take our Parametric NatCat operation to the next level.

This is why we are offering an opportunity for an inspired & broadly skilled Head of Parametric NatCat Solutions to manage our global, diverse and high-performing transactional team efficiently.

This position manages a team responsible for origination, structuring, pricing and underwriting. This position will also lead project teams in order to drive and support product development but also to leverage collaboration with external partners like data providers, calculation agents or MGA. Proactive collaboration with internal stakeholders in business unites but also our parametric weather team will be essential to build a power house for parametric non-life solutions in the division Capital Partners. This position also steers the annual planning exercise as well as monitors the subsequent portfolio development and performance including the accumulation and budgets.

Requirements
  • Manage a team responsible for originating, structuring, pricing and underwriting
  • Lead project teams and drive product development while leveraging collaboration with external partners like data providers, calculation agents or MGA.
  • Install, refine and drive efficient processes and collaboration in the team and with the wider MR organization
  • Jointly with the team, ensure the underwriting quality of all parametric NatCat (re)insurance in MR group
  • Drive execution of new product offerings while leveraging the wider Munich Re organization (incl. corporate underwriting) and business units
  • Establish, maintain, and drive strategic relationships to clients, brokers, external partners and key decision makers with the goal to become their trusted partner and to strategically fill our sales pipeline
  • Manage carriers and the legal requirements including the monitoring of changes in the regulatory environment globally
  • Jointly lead the annual planning process including budget planning, monitoring and portfolio steering


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, business, law, economics, or similar qualification with a thorough understanding of (re)insurance risk, underwriting and actuarial principals
  • 7+ years of experience in underwriting, structuring, origination, and execution in the financial services industry preferred; Management experience is a plus
  • Experienced as team and/or project leader with strong project management, communication, social and networking capabilities.
  • Underwriting expert level knowledge of applicable Property Lines of Business is preferred
  • High level of actuarial understanding and demonstrated competency using Munich Re's pricing tools and KPI's
  • High level of reinsurance contract (terminology) understanding and ability to develop alternative clauses where necessary
  • Strong client orientation, with an entrepreneurial mindset and focus on execution
  • Ability to take on responsibility and work independently, and competence to prioritize
  • Willingness to travel for client and conference presentations and client maintenance (up to 25% of the time)


The Company is open to considering candidates in NYC. The salary range posted below applies to the Company's NYC location.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $193,100 - $283,100, plusopportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in NYC. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
