Description

Provide analysis and recommendations on business operations pertaining to product, pricing, underwriting and marketing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform various pricing, product and underwriting functions and analysis.
  • Develop, introduce and provide ongoing support on the use of basic reports intended to support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Complete competitor coverage form, policy & pricing analysis.
  • Assist with rate filings, including:
    1. participate in kick-off and steering committee meetings
    2. provide input on pricing structure and competitor programs
    3. evaluate and highlight areas requiring deeper actuarial analysis
  • Provide support to research and analyze projects and activities:
    1. assist in compiling research data, by extracting data from various sources, designing spreadsheets, tabulating composite results manually and using computer programs, generating computer reports, and so forth
    2. assist in preparing written reports of research findings and related recommendations to management
    3. assist with enhanced and/or new product development projects
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of actuarial databases and data mining tools.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from the Director of Research and Development.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree (in Mathematics, Business, Statistics or Economics preferred), plus 3 to 5 years of relevant insurance underwriting experience; or a combination or education & experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong underwriting background and knowledge of the insurance industry & principles.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of products with particular emphasis/advanced skills with Excel and Access.
  • Knowledge of image systems, rate-making and reserving procedures a plus.
  • Positive and highly motivated; able to work independently as well as a team player.
  • Working knowledge of Cognos, SQL, and VBA a plus.
  • Ability to represent the company and deal effectively with a variety of company personnel and outside vendors, such as government insurance department personnel.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Predominantly sedentary office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work.
