Description

Acuity is seeking a Data Scientist - Market Strategy to support Acuity's market strategy & communications planning and decision making by using advanced statistical and analytical techniques to inform complex and sophisticated business questions. The Data Scientist will enable a better understanding of our markets, customers, and products through the lens of data, while collaborating with cross functional teams to develop analytics and optimization strategies. The Data Scientist will apply and integrate advanced statistical, mathematical, data mining, and business analysis skills and techniques to uncover new behavioral insights, predict outcomes, evaluate decision pathways, and advise on turning new insights into actionable opportunities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop solutions, to support analytic insights and visualization using mathematical models, algorithms, machine learning techniques, and robust analytics.
  • Supports the human element of turning data into action as a part of decision-making, analyzes performance data by segmentation.
  • Understanding of census data, market penetration, and projecting changes in strategy to business outcomes.
  • Provide data driven decision support for key initiatives of market strategy related to organizational objectives and understanding both growth and profitability.
  • Educating internal stakeholders about customer analytics, prioritizing the right KPIs, and methods to optimize business results.
  • Design, create, alter, validate, and maintain data solutions, across multiple platforms, and computing environments that meet business needs.
  • Collaborate with actuarial and data science peers across the organization, aligning best practices, tooling, and approaches for transparency and accountability.
  • Work in tandem with market analysts to present findings in a contextual, visual data story so business users know within minutes what the context is, what changed, and what is most relevant.
  • Communicate complex quantitative analyses in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to a cross-functional team.
  • Effectively present analytical results and derived recommendations for action to senior leaders, peers, and product team members. Actively pursue continued professional development, deepening knowledge of analytical and statistical techniques as well as enriching industry knowledge
  • Regular, predictable attendance.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, math, computer science, economics, actuarial science or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of three years relevant experience to include research and data analysis, experiment design and measurement, or application of statistical research techniques. Direct experience serving marketing and business strategy areas a plus. Project management experience preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven excellence in research, quantitative analysis, problem solving, and analytical working techniques.
  • Statistical knowledge and intuition.
  • Strong aptitude and desire for learning new analytical and visualization tools, modeling, and quantitative techniques. Initiative to independently design and develop own deliverables while still being a team player.
  • Skilled at partnering with business-owners, IT resources, and fellow organizational actuarial/data science colleagues to improve the ability to measure strategic outcomes and customer centric initiatives.
  • Experience consulting with internal customers to understand analytic needs, help define project scope, and provide deliverables.
  • Ability to collaborate with developers and testers to implement, validate, and maintain analytics and reporting ensuring data integrity.
  • Proven success identifying data gaps or issues and resolving analytics implementation issues.
  • Expertise in one or more development or statistical analysis tool such as R, Python, SAS, SQL, SPSS, or other tools. Tableau experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with large data sets and distributed computing tools such as Hadoop, Map/Reduce, Hive, etc.
