The Actuarial Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and maintain actuarial reserving processes to comply with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Development and review of monitoring processes to support the reserving function.
  • Collaborating with underwriting, finance and claims to gather relevant insights for reserving.
  • Maintain loss projection models for premium liabilities.
  • Responsible for preparing regulatory reporting deliverables.
  • Engaging with external auditors and reviewing actuaries.
  • Supporting the Finance team to report insurance liabilities under Australian and US GAAP.
  • Maintaining suitable financial projections for the business.
  • Supporting capital management processes for the ICAAP.
  • Undertaking ad hoc investigations into specific areas or topics of interest where actuarial advice is to be provided.
  • Assisting with the continued evolution of business processes.
  • Foster development of junior members of the actuarial team.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of actuarial valuation techniques and processes, with a view on best practices.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills. Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to deliver results under tight deadlines and competing objectives.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with SAS, Snowflake, Python or R is preferred.
  • Robust inter-personal skills and willingness/ ability to function as member of a multi-disciplined, international team.
  • Working knowledge of Australian GAAP accounting for insurance and reinsurance.
  • Orientation towards results, curiosity, integrity, and self-direction.

Education & Experience:
  • Already, or 1 or two subjects away from becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of prior experience working in general insurance (with significant experience in valuations) strongly preferred
  • Experience in LMI would be highly regarded but is not essential.
