OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sr. Underwriter is primarily responsible to underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with all company Underwriting guidelines, procedures, and service standards. This role is responsible for interacting with MMIA agents, account service consultants, and independent agents to assist in selling, retaining, and servicing PSL and HCS business.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  • Handle all duties within authority level and assigned territory, which consists of large and complex accounts, insuring physicians, facilities, and hospital liability risks.
  • Modify risk and coverage conditions on new or renewal business within limits of delegated authority and in accordance with established service and quality standards while maintaining production, account retention, and profitability objectives.
  • Ensure the consistent implementation of underwriting guidelines for proper risk identification, assessment, documentation, and management.
  • Assist in managing results through proactive input on necessary pricing structure terms, and risk assumption requirements.
  • Assigned accounts may include loss sensitive features such as deductibles, SIR's, and profit sharing plans.
  • Investigate and determine insurability of new applicants within authority level, analyze claim information, and rate and classify risk appropriately.
  • Manage a renewal portfolio; effecting change based on analysis claim experience, changes in exposure, market conditions, etc.
  • Adhere to established company guidelines and protocols with respect to underwriting and file documentation.
  • Review red flag files, Account Summary History forms and Actuarial Analyses per guidelines with Head of Hospital Portfolio.
  • Interact with agents and brokers and work with other company departments to ensure working relations are optimal.
  • Assist Head of Hospital Portfolio with special projects requiring advanced underwriting experience.


QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • University degree, with a quantitative focus.
  • Seven to ten years casualty underwriting experience, with an emphasis on medical professional liability.
  • Expertise in writing large and more complex accounts required.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, as well as, knowledge of policy contract terms and conditions, classification, rating, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
