Description

The Non-Life Actuarial Risk Management (NLARM for short) team monitors experience and produces quarterly reserve estimates for the business and preparing regulatory reports (AVR and FCR) at year end. We also provide ad-hoc support for the business where actuarial advice is needed and modelling and review support to the broader finance team, including for capital management and reinsurance purchasing. With the introduction of IFRS17, we are an important part of the team providing and quality assuring the results on a group and local basis. Reporting to the CFO, you will lead this close-knit supportive team.

Your role:

  • Lead the team with the goal of achieving their career aspirations and broader business imperatives
  • Develop competencies of own team to ensure we have the necessary skills to meet customer, stakeholders and employee expectations
  • Establish and implement short and long range departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures whilst maintaining appropriate internal control safeguards
  • Conduct quarterly valuations of Non-Life and Great Lakes Australia's (GLA) insurance liabilities
  • Prepare the annual Liability Valuation Reports for Non-Life and GLA (APRA requirement), Munich Re New Zealand (MRNZ) and GLA New Zealand
  • Prepare the annual Financial Condition Reports for Non-Life, GLA and present to the directors of Munich Re
  • IFRS17 quality assurance of inputs and results and explanation of results
  • Provide actuarial support and advice and other assignments as required by CRO, CFO and Head of Non-Life and GLA business units
  • Provide Actuarial Advice as required under the Actuarial Advice framework and supervise advice provided by Senior Actuaries
  • Supervise development of analytical tools for monitoring Non-Life and GLA


Your profile:

  • University degree and Fellowship of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (or equivalent, subject to APRA approval)
  • 5 years+ post qualified experience in a general insurance or general reinsurance environment
  • Team leadership experience
  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills at senior management and Board level
  • Ability to balance statutory requirements along with partnering with the business to achieve commercial outcomes
  • Can manage a diverse range of stakeholders, influencing and driving to sometimes challenging outcomes
  • Knowledge of the Australian and New Zealand Insurance prudential framework and related regulatory and prudential supervisory environment. Knowledge of the Australian and New Zealand Insurance Actuarial Standards and Insurance financial reporting bases
  • Strong competence in actuarial techniques as used in general insurance including triangulation techniques used in the actuarial reserving process, pricing and capital modelling concepts
  • Able to meet the Australian regulator's (APRA) "Fit and Proper" requirements
  • High profile reputation within the insurance/reinsurance industry and actuarial profession
