Description

This position is within the Enterprise Risk Management team ideally for a term 6 months or longer. In this role the intern will build an understanding of variable annuity product features and the primary risk drivers and gain an understanding of market data and various metrics that are used to measure risks associated with variable annuities.

The intern will be expected to work in our West Chester PA offices on Tuesday and Wednesday each week for at least two months.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Building PowerBI reports that will be used to understand key market risks in our variable annuity products and the derivatives used to hedge those risks; this work entails:

  • Creating DAX measures
  • Producing data visualization/interactive tools
  • Building and testing excel prototypes


2) Assisting with periodic reporting:

  • Daily risk report (dashboard of derivatives and variable annuity liabilities)
  • Monthly derivative report
  • Hedge compliance tracking
  • Supporting data inputs for investor materials (e.g., hedge vitals, liquidity uses)
  • Other reports that contribute to ERM's objectives


3) Analyzing trends of derivative metric results (e.g., option theta)

4) Improving reporting processes such as adding controls, streamlining calculations, or creating process documentation

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance or related business discipline
  • Prior experience in financial, insurance industry, or actuarial experience with annuities is preferred.
  • One actuarial exam passed or willingness to pursue actuarial profession.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and analytical skills
  • Derivative knowledge is a plus (e.g., Futures, Options, Total Return Swaps)
  • Excellent computer skills are preferred:


  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (PowerQuery, PowerPivot, VBA)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • SQL particularly with SQL Server or DataGrip is a plus
  • Microsoft PowerBI or other data visualization (Alteryx, Tableau) is a plus
