About Casualty Underwriting

We offer Insurance and Reinsurance capabilities across a broad range of Casualty products on both a proportional and excess of loss basis. With teams based in the US, Bermuda, London, Zurich, Singapore, and Sydney, we have expertise in all major territories, allowing us to build deep expertise and foster strong relationships with our brokers and clients. The Reinsurance team has broad appetite and offers market leading solutions and capacity with a focus on Professional Lines, Excess Casualty, and Transactional Risk, as well as a specialized approach to Medical Malpractice, Workers Compensation, and Clash business.

About the Position

As an Underwriting Analyst, you will work side-by-side with our underwriters, gaining hands-on experience to develop your understanding of how to make decisions, build client relationships, and manage deals from start to finish. You'll also work closely with the internal partners who enable our success, including actuaries, risk analysts, weather scientists, IT, operations, finance, and business development. Specific activities will include assisting underwriters in reviewing submissions, performing analysis, and interpreting results. As an integral team resource, you'll have the opportunity to get involved in portfolio management and other projects. As an Analyst at RenaissanceRe, you're part of the whole team. Key Responsibilities
  • Review incoming submissions
  • Liaise with actuarial pricing team and assist with data management
  • Monitor and review contract wordings in conjunction with the legal team
  • Perform portfolio review on assigned business for profitability analysis
  • Prepare for and attend client/broker meetings with Underwriters
  • Attend client audits alongside Underwriters
  • Maintain and enhance mutually beneficial client relationships


Candidate Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical skills and financial acumen
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with ability to read and understand contracts
  • Insurance or reinsurance experience, including basic understanding of structures, financial terms and conditions, and market dynamics, preferred but not required
  • Intellectual curiosity, solutions orientation, and drive to continually develop skills
  • Commitment to contribute to the overall mission of RenaissanceRe and champion our values & culture
  • Organizational skills and focus on results
  • Undergraduate degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, or similar evidence of analytical aptitude and data fluency

The full-time base salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000 per year; base salary offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The position is eligible for bonus and a comprehensive benefits package. This information is provided per the New York City Human Rights Law and applies only to positions in New York City.
