We currently have an exciting opportunity in Sydney which plays a major part in the success of Hannover Re globally. We are a lead reinsurer in Australia and New Zealand and we have the benefit of being flexible and nimble with the financial backing of one of the largest reinsurers in the world.

We are seeking a Corporate Actuary to join our team within our Property & Casualty branch. The role will be a permanent position reporting directly to our Appointed Actuary.

Key Responsibilities

About the role

The Corporate Actuary is an all-encompassing actuarial role for the Property & Casualty branch, primarily as a deputising function to the Appointed Actuary.

Your day may look a little like:
  • Performing quarterly actuarial reserving under local and Group requirements in coordination with local Appointed Actuary
  • Deputising for the Appointed Actuary with regards to all local statutory obligations required under APRA CPS320
  • Performing regular actuarial portfolio monitoring of branch financial performance, loss trends, claims development and key account specific performance
  • Facilitating effective communication of key experience trends between actuarial reserving, accounting/finance, underwriting to support branch's portfolio steering initiatives
  • Working with the Appointed Actuary to provide local actuarial expertise supporting local IFRS17/AASB17 integration
  • Supporting the preparation of annual business plans and Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) including scenario and stress testing
  • Supporting actuarial reviews on material inwards and retrocession transactions
  • Providing actuarial support on preparations and reviews of quarterly regulatory filings, annual year-end local audit, as well as internal and external reviews
  • Contributing to the preparation of quarterly Operational Council and BSB meetings


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will need to have:
  • University degree in Actuarial Mathematics or equivalent, with at least 3 years of post-graduation experience
  • Past working experiences in the Australian (re)insurance industry, with familiarity on local regulatory and actuarial requirements
  • IFRS17/AASB17 knowledge and experiences is preferred
  • Advanced level Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail and ability to prioritise effectively
  • Clear and effective communication both written and verbal
