Position Summary:

At Mercury, members of our Product Management Team are responsible for driving profitable growth in their assigned states and line of business (Personal Lines Auto, Property or Commercial insurance). As a R&D Analyst II, you are playing a vital role in making our insurance product successful.

With general supervision from the manager, the primary job function is to work largely independently to monitor, audit and analyze product performance, recognize opportunities and make recommendations to achieve overall profitability and growth in assigned line of business. Provide assistance and contribute to product and pricing improvements and development of next generation insurance products.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Utilizes SAS/SQL or other software to extract, manipulate and analyze large sets of data in order to recommend improvements in our product pricing;
  • Performs predictive modeling projects using existing code, modifies or enhances existing code or develops new code from scratch to complete projects;
  • Tests new rating models against existing ones to determine performance of accuracy of prediction, loss ratio improvement and segmentation
  • Works independently to monitor, audit and analyze product performance to identify issues and opportunities;
  • Perform primary field research, including customer, distribution, competitor and insurance department; Provides assistance and contributes to product and pricing improvements and development of next generation insurance products. Recommends ideas to improve product offerings, process improvements and/or goal changes
  • Meets with management and team to present analysis needs; Prepares reports, graphs and charts based on research and analysis. Operates within a project plan to incorporate business objectives, data scope, research methodology, resources and timeframe.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business or related field of study (e.g., Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Math/Actuarial Science)
  • Master's degree preferred in Business or related field of study (e.g., Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Math/Actuarial Science)


Experience:

  • 3+ years of product management, product development and/or analytical experience in insurance, financial services, consulting, or similar industry, or equivalent combination of education/experience is required
  • 3+ years of property casualty insurance experience with advanced product, pricing, underwriting and insurance regulation knowledge is preferred, or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • 3+ years of experience working with SAS, Python, R, and visualization software such as PowerBI preferred


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Fluent with standard predictive modeling techniques such as GLMs, logistic regression, and gradient boosting algorithms
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills required
  • Proficiency in data manipulation using tools such as SAS, SQL, R, Python
  • Proficient PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven history of taking initiative and driving projects to completion required
