Job Description

We currently have an opportunity for an Underwriting Director to join our Renewable Energy team in our Canton, MA office or remotely nationwide. The position directs effective product development, pricing and underwriting through managing all components of profit, loss, and expenses for a significant specialty product line or multiple lines. Develops underwriting strategy for specialty product line(s). May oversee one or more region within a significant specialty business.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the financial performance of the Specialty product line including loss ratio, premium plans and commission targets. Achieves profitability and growth goals through the development and execution of annual strategic plan including specific underwriting, pricing, retention, service, and expense plans.
  • Analyzes book trends and manages catastrophe plans. Analyzes data on competitors' products, programs, and pricing levels. Makes recommendations for new pricing levels and product modifications. Enhances existing products and programs through collaboration with Specialty staff and appropriate actuarial staff. Maintains a strong professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments. Communicates and acts on this information effectively.
  • Develops methods for building and mobilizing a technically competent and highly effective staff capable of meeting current and future needs of the corporation through effective leadership and human resources management.
  • Ensures compliance with underwriting standards and authorities. Has ultimate underwriting authority for a Specialty line of business. Directs underwriting decisions in compliance with state laws.
  • Directs and participates in the creation of underwriting guidelines, product and coverage forms or system modifications. Is recognized in the company as the subject matter expert on a particular Specialty line of business.
  • Monitors corporate results, develops and implements actions as needed. Establishes profit, growth and operating objectives as part of the overall plan for Specialty Lines segment(s).
  • Participates in producer presentation meetings, including travel to key producers. Maintains high level producer relationships. Effectively communicates strategic direction of the company and the Specialty line of business to external audiences.
  • Directs, manages, and develops Management staff. This includes goal setting, assessment, staff selection, role alignment and completion of performance appraisals. Responsible for overall communication of goals and priorities.
Requirements:
  • Requires a high degree of technical knowledge, problem solving and decision-making skills, strategic planning ability and human resource management.
  • Fully effective and experienced leader and influencer.
  • Developing industry recognition within relevant circles.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10 years insurance experience or related education/experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 Supervisory/Management years of experience required.
  • MBA, CPCU or RPLU designation highly desirable.

Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires but your recruiter will share more specific compensation information with you during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $243,000 - $285,000, based on the factors aforementioned. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include: 401(k) savings and annual contributions of up to 12% of annual salary, competitive paid time off programs, medical, vision and dental plans, mental health support programs, life and disability insurance, paid parental leave and a variety of voluntary benefits.
