Job Description
Purpose of the Role:

To manage and oversee the underwriting and actuarial activities of Tree while setting priorities, guiding pricing analyst and underwriter and reporting/ presenting to Management

Key Activities

Pricing and Underwriting:
• Devise and improve operational policies and procedures in line with corporate and strategic guidance
• Deploy allocated resources for optimal performance and provide feedback to the direct line manager on resource requirements
• Monitor staff achievements, perform periodic performance appraisals, and provide guidance, coaching or training to direct reports in performing their delegated duties
• Ensure the performance of duties and conduct of staff is in accordance with the departmental/unit business processes and operating procedures
• Implement proper Digital Insurance Motor underwriting strategy as per the market standards and according to the underwriting manual and approved rating tables of the organization
• Lead and direct pricing strategy formulation and take necessary pricing actions to enhance profitability, ensuring integrity and accuracy in all pricing matters
• Monitor underwriters' adherence to established rate tables of their respective LOB, and identify any required changes or amendments to approved tables
• Maintain departmental knowledge of the latest underwriting tools, techniques, systems, and best practices in the market by commissioning research/analysis and investigating new ideas
• Investigate underwriting issues and identify requirements for system improvement
• Monitor Underwriting results and implement Underwriting budget

Reserving:
• Producing recommendations on the required level of reserves for all relevant lines of business.
• Develop, embed and maintain a robust reserving process which meets local requirements.
• Work with the Corporate Actuarial Team to prepare reserving reports as required
• Portfolio profitability review, analysis and tracking
• Governance and compliance of reserving processes, reporting to internal committees/agencies
• Cross-division reserve analysis consolidation, and relevant reporting into senior and board level stakeholders
• Segment and division wide actuarial analytics projects

Capital Modelling:
• Operation of the model: understand the technical working of the capital model, co-ordinate with other departments to ensure the calibration of the model is done with accuracy, completeness and appropriateness, run and extract results from the model, ensure output provided from the model is accurate, complete and appropriate, provide quantitative and qualitative reporting.
• Development of the model: Understand the model limitations and work within the change process to address prioritise limitations, operate the model change process, identify future areas for study.
• Risk Management use: This role is integrated into the wider Corporate Actuarial Team. This role will be expected to continue to develop the area of Risk management and seek future opportunities to embed the model into a coherent risk management strategy
• Wider model use: Respond to use requests, identify, and develop areas for future use

Pricing:
• Support Tree's efforts in deployment of new pricing platform, coordinating with business leaders and external partners on model construction
• Make full use of available data to inform underwriting decision-making and portfolio management through continued development of pricing models and tools (e.g. development of pricing models, tools and reports to evaluate risk profitability, portfolio construction and optimisation; capital efficiency and marginal pricing modelling approaches, collaborating closely with the wider pricing team)

Requirements

Technical skills required
• Statistical Modelling, Data Analytics, Programming (Python, SAS, SQL)

Typical Education and Work Experience required
• 7+ years of relevant experience with focus on P&C personal lines, knowledge of SAMA regulatory framework.
• Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, or a related subject
• Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred
• Qualified / Nearly Qualified - strongly preferred
