Responsibilities

Key Risk is looking for an enthusiastic individual to gain additional experience and exposure to the fundamentals of data engineering, data analytics, and data science as a Data Engineer Trainee. The trainee will shadow and provide support to the Data Analytics, Data Reporting and Data Science functions for Key Risk and the Alternative Market Segment (AMS) of the W. R. Berkley Corporation. Another component of the training plan includes rotation assignments with various Key Risk departments, including Finance, Compliance, Underwriting, Claims and Client Experience to understand the needs of critical data and analytics to make well-informed and timely business decisions.

Key Functionswill include but not be limited to:

  • Building a core understanding of insurance data and operations and developing expertise with the tools used to deliver data and insight to decision makers across the enterprise;
  • Working with Data Engineering teams across the enterprise to develop structured and unstructured data from various sources into analytic data sets suitable for BI Analytics, Data Reporting, and training of predictive models;
  • Assisting Data Science teams across the enterprise to assist with evaluation, recalibration, and deployment of predictive models for Key Risk operational teams;
  • Supporting Data Reporting needs in a highly regulated Financial Service environment;
  • Providing programming support to enterprise Development Operations teams as needed in the deployment of predictive models;
  • Automating of actuarial models and processes to improve efficiency across the group;
  • Actively participate in Data Engineering, Data Reporting, BI Analytics and Data Science initiatives across the W.R. Berkley organization;
  • Enthusiastically engage in Key Risk and W.R. Berkley Corporate initiatives including Innovation and Client Service Intimacy;
  • Other responsibilities as assigned;
  • Successful completion of training plan.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with concentration in statistics, computer science, data analytics, actuarial science, mathematics, economics, finance, business, or related field
  • Exposure to and a working knowledge of tools and programming languages such as Python, SQL and Power BI, an understanding of working in SQL and NoSQL database systems that are commonly used in BI Analytics, Data Management and Data Science;
  • Comfort working with and organizing large data sets;
  • Familiarity with version control using Git;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication enabling effective communication to all levels of the organization;
  • Understands the importance of timely and professional responsiveness;
  • Curiosity and desire to learn and grow professionally and increase individual knowledge of workers compensation insurance;
  • Committed to the highest standards of ethical behavior, honesty, and integrity.
