The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an commercially focused non-life Actuary to join the Legacy Solutions business of Zurich (focussed predominantly on run off portfolios), supporting regular reserving, investigations into portfolio performance and deal preparation. You will also provide support and advice to the Chief Actuary, the CFO, and to the actuarial business partners across specified portfolios. The right person in this role can make a material difference to ZLS overall management and results

Zurich Legacy Solutions (ZLS) is a global business unit in Zurich managing insurance portfolios across multiple lines (life and non-life) and geographies. ZLS is a material part of the Global non-core segment of Zurich, and the actuarial team is a key part of the business, involved in internal acquisitions, ongoing portfolio management and deals/disposals.

What will you be doing?

Reserving
  • You will lead reserving activities, and support local business unit with reserving on ZLS portfolios in complex environments and lines of business.
  • With appropriate review, you will coordinate, prepare and perform actuarial analyses including loss and premium projections, consultation on actuarial models
  • You will support Finance, market-facing business units, Claims, Risk, Capital Management, and other functions on reserving and strategic business decisions, providing consultation and technical expertise on actuarial models and risk issues.
  • You will ensure that the claims provisioning processes for assigned Business Unit(s) are appropriately governed in accordance with Group, Regional, and Local regulatory policies.
  • You will provide actuarial support and advice on internal reserve transfers from EMEA and Asia Pacific Business Units. There is the potential to provide additional support to members of the team focused on portfolios in the USA
  • Through the portfolio management phase, you will support the Chief Actuary/Head of Claims performance in identifying analytical approaches to improve understanding of claims trends, and identifying potential management actions


Deal preparation
  • As portfolios are identified to take to market, you will work with the ZLS deal team on analysis to help support/position the sale
  • You will assist in drafting/preparing relevant actuarial sections of deal sale documents
  • As required, support the Chief Actuary by participating in market facing discussions on specified portfolios
  • Adhere to professional standards of practice as defined by the relevant local actuarial society, regulatory body, or other governing body.


General Business Accountabilities
  • Provide professional actuarial support and advice to actuarial business partners including insights into underlying performance and implications for the business.
  • Analyse data and undertake complex modelling using established methodologies to quantify risk and support business decision making. Perform more complex analyses as assigned under the supervision of a more experienced actuary.
  • Work closely with ZLS MI to ensure quality data and support robust decisions
  • Manage the flow and quality of relevant actuarial data to ensure robust output
  • Contribute to on-going monitoring of portfolios, providing in depth analysis with an aim to stabilise the financial results of the portfolio.
  • Ensure that processes and standards are consistent with internal Zurich actuarial policies and guidance and, where relevant, compliant with regulations; lead the implementation of systems and process improvements in own area.
  • Participate in analyses and provide high quality actuarial advice to facilitate business decisions related to mergers & acquisitions and/or special projects that are outside of normal business as usual or geographic responsibilities.
  • Research best actuarial practice and review/analyse current practice area to support senior management in developing and improving processes and systems.
  • Make informed actuarial recommendations based on professional judgment and experience.
  • You will provide actuarial support on internal reserve transfers from EMEA and Asia Pacific Business Units. Participate in analyses and provide high quality actuarial advice to facilitate business decisions related to mergers & acquisitions and/or special projects that are outside of normal business as usual or geographic responsibilities.


What are we looking for?
  • Qualified actuary in a locally recognised actuarial body, with at least 5 years post qualification experience
  • Experience in multiple functional areas (reserving, capital management, pricing etc.) and/or multiple Business Units and/or multiple Lines of Business
  • Knowledge or experience of working within the Insurance industry
  • Experience with actuarial elements of M&A
