The base salary range for an Actuarial Reporting Analyst II is $54.000 to $97,300 and for a Sr. Actuarial Reporting Analyst is $80,400 to $144,700. Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.

Actuarial Reporting Analyst II Overview

Responsibilities include providing moderate to complex analytical support to senior level management to support strategic and tactical initiatives focused on driving top and bottom-line growth. Gathers, analyzes, and validates data to develop and/or modify reports covering key financials, business demographics and company strategy. Maintains knowledge of company data structure and definitions to effectively communicate financial implications of actuarial issues. Actively participates in and occasionally leads cross functional projects. Performs ad hoc reporting as needed. Participates in industry surveys.

Sr. Actuarial Reporting Analyst Overview

Responsible for providing complex analytics supporting initiatives focused on driving both top and bottom-line growth. Produces comprehensive, periodic reports covering the key sources of variance between actual and planned results for L/D/W. Understands and effectively communicates the implications of these findings both horizontally and vertically within the organization. This requires an expertise of LSV company operations and data structures. Leads and has ultimate ownership of report functionality, enhancements, new requests, potential issues, and prioritization. Serves as the chief contact person for external industry surveys providing data and interpreting results. Acts as a mentor to junior staff and provides day to day support to train and develop new staff when added to the department.

Actuarial Reporting Analyst Essential Duties

  • Performs moderate to complex ad hoc reporting and summarizes findings

  • Maintains knowledge of company data structure and definitions to effectively communicate financial implications of actuarial issues
  • Finds, develops, and implements improvements to workflow
  • May perform other duties as assigned


Sr. Actuarial Reporting Analyst Essential Duties

  • Financial reporting/analysis for Senior management
  • Mentor junior staff and provide day to day support to new staff when added
  • Collecting data and responding to industry surveys including LIMRA and Gen Re
  • Ad hoc reporting
  • Other duties as assigned


Actuarial Reporting Analyst Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced analytical problem-solving skills with strong aptitude for numbers, ability to analyze numerical data and form sound conclusions
  • Ability to work independently; ability to recognize trends; ability to learn new software, detail oriented.
  • Advanced user capabilities in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint


Sr. Actuarial Reporting Analyst Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Full and advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (including but not limited to: Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Report Builder)
  • Knowledge of insurance company operation and an understanding of how an insurance company makes money
  • The ability to recognize problems in data, find them, fix the cause, and prevent recurrence
  • Advanced communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and to provide concise interpretation and presentation of complex data and associated results
  • The ability to innovate current processes to achieve better quality than the current state and see new ways data can be used
  • Focused attitude and the ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills


Required Education and Experience

  • Actuarial Reporting Analyst
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
    • 2 years of relevant experience
    • Or, equivalent military experience
  • Sr. Actuarial Reporting Analyst
    • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Computer Science or related work experience
    • 5+ years in insurance with business and/or reporting analysis experience
    • Advance proficiency in data manipulation, experience working with large complex amounts of data, report generation and fact-based analysis
    • Or, equivalent military experience


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Certification(s) may be required
  • LOMA Education preferred
  • 4-5 years of insurance with analytical experience
  • Microsoft Access experience Preferred; basic knowledge of SQL a plus; previous experience in the life/disability insurance industry desired
