L&H Risk Management will work closely with the first line to help avoid surprises and support commercial best practices. Risk Management encourages a culture that promotes risk awareness to challenge risk from every angle; intervening where necessary to take appropriate actions.
Position Summary

We are hiring a Senior Risk Manager to join the Life and Health Risk Management team. You will have the opportunity to acquire an overview of Swiss Re's risk taking and provide risk oversight across the Life and Health reinsurance business. The role encompasses both an Americas and global focus and you will work with colleagues from other regions.
Core responsibilities

Support business steering and monitoring
  • Provide advice and an independent voice to help business partners balance strategy with appropriate risk management.
  • Assess portfolio strategies and business plans for risk accumulation, utilization of risk limits, risk trends and mitigants, and operational & monitoring effectiveness.
  • Be a representative for Risk Management in Smart Circles.
  • Provide risk input to the L&H Re CRO on Market Unit business reviews.

Review Transactions review
  • Review inbound transactions, in force optimization activities, external retrocessions and hedging solutions, and core innovation (distribution partnerships, product development, sustainability initiatives) proposals to support Risk Management's signature.
  • Provide expert opinion to ensure risk capital is set appropriately, key risks are identified, reflected, and mitigated, and contractual terms safeguard prudent risk taking.

Leading and supporting costing assurance
  • Lead and support assurance activities through participation in Insurance Risk Reviews and Terms of Trade Reviews

Promoting a risk aware culture
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a comprehensive risk management framework, including proposing appropriate limits and ensuring reporting of the risk landscape to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Support initiatives to improve Risk Management's infrastructure, models and methodologies (e.g., supporting internal model vetting, risk capital and Risk Adjustment factor reviews, governance of origination activities)
  • Investigate key risk issues and topics relevant for L&H business (e.g., extreme risk analysis, pandemic risk and monitoring, L&H accumulations)

Cooperation and communication with stakeholders
  • Foster strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders in the Market Unit, the global L&H functions, and other risk management, legal and compliance teams.
Position Requirement / About you
  • Undergraduate university degree
  • Actuarial qualifications (FSA, FCIA, FIA, FFA or recognized equivalent)
  • 5-8 years experience in an Actuarial or Risk function

  • An extensive technical and commercial appreciation of L&H business. Knowledge of all the key products and services offered by Swiss Re and its competitors
  • Business sense and appreciation of sound risk management and actuarial techniques
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills - you demonstrate a clear and articulate standard of written and verbal communication in a complex environment
  • Excellent analytical, issue resolution, negotiating and influencing skills
  • Ability to use experience and judgement with minimal supervision or direction; have the confidence and foresight to use own initiative
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, across multiple functions and to prioritize tasks accordingly
  • Experience in managing multiple stakeholders and dealing positively with ambiguity and conflict

For Armonk the estimated base salary range for this position is $107,000 to $198,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
