SALARY: $72,624.00 - $116,198.00 Annually

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicant's education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.

PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.

CLASS DEFINITION

A Retirement Benefits Analyst Supervisor oversees the work of providing retirement plan assistance to City employees, participates in retirement administration and performs special retirement system projects. Work of this class involves supervising Retirement Benefit Analyst and medical claims processing personnel.

Incumbents receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional work week. Work is performed in an office where normal working conditions are encountered.

SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have five (5) years of experience in employee benefit, employee retirement, fiscal, actuarial, or investment planning work or related field. Three (3) years of the work experience must be in retirement benefit analysis work.

OR

EQUIVALENCIES: A master's degree from an accredited college or university or an International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans Internship Certification (IFE) may be substituted for one year of the required work experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of retirement plans and laws.
  • Knowledge of current developments in the field of retirement benefits.
  • Knowledge of city pension system, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in computing retirement, death, and disability benefits.
  • Skill in the interpretation and use of actuarial tables.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the operations and work of a retirement benefits section.
  • Ability to resolve sensitive and complex retirement benefit claim cases.
  • Ability to perform statistical work and mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to write complex and detailed narrative retirement benefits case reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, retirees and their families, city and other government officials, actuaries, and others.
  • Supervisory ability.
  • Administrative ability.


EXAMINATION PROCESS
