Location: This role could be based in either our Birmingham or Edinburgh offices with time spent working in the office and at home.

We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Lead Project Actuary to join our Open Actuarial Reporting and Change team within the Financial Reporting Centre.

The role

We're currently recruiting for a Lead Project Actuary to join our Open Actuarial Reporting & Change team to provide a professional service applying actuarial, technical & business knowledge to support the delivery of informed & effective decision making in order to deliver the company strategy.

As a Lead Project Actuary you will lead workstreams within larger projects or lead smaller projects relating to equity release mortgage/lifetime mortgages, including new product launches, enhancements to existing propositions, regulatory, capital and modelling change as well as development of commercial MI. You will act as a subject matter expert for Actuarial Reporting. Situated in the ERM (Equity Release Mortgages) Development team and reporting to one of the Senior Project Actuaries, the successful applicant will undertake an interesting and varied range of work.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues and senior stakeholders across a wide range of teams in Phoenix to provide vital insight to support strategic decision-making. You will work closely with the Business as Usual teams to deliver successful business readiness. You will also lead and support the development of internal trainee actuaries and analysts directly or in a matrix setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead small scale projects or elements of large scale more complex (12 month plus duration) projects to support the business.
  • Act as actuarial subject matter expert on strategic business projects and reporting to ensure specialist input is provided to business decision making.
  • Communicate effectively with a technical actuarial audience and simplify communications of technical issues to a non-technical audience.
  • Lead, develop, coach and mentor actuarial trainees and analysts as required to maximise their contribution.
  • Contribute to the preparation of papers and reports for senior management as required.
  • Continually look to enhance processes and procedures to deliver effective solutions for the business.
  • Maintaining up to date regulatory, business & professional knowledge in an environment of fast moving regulatory change.
  • Regularly working to defined and tight timescales whilst maintaining professional standards.
  • Balancing business demand, issues and risks by applying sound judgement in complex scenarios, often with considerable uncertainty.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a qualified Actuary with varied experience in actuarial reporting and change, or other life actuarial disciplines with a strong track record of delivery in a commercial environment.

Knowledge of financial reporting metrics, including SII is highly desirable, as is experience of working in actuarial change delivery. Experience of equity release mortgages is also desirable.

Someone who is keen to learn quickly in a changing environment having a strong appetite for change and experience of driving continuous improvement will fit well with the role.

You will have an ability to build strong relationships and drive action through influence and collaboration across boundaries, combined with experience and ability to influence and communicate effectively with a variety of colleagues and senior stakeholders from different disciplines across the business.
