The Role

This is an opportunity to join a market-leading actuarial pricing team at a major global specialty (re)insurer, giving exposure to a wide range of products and pricing techniques.

From day one you will develop sophisticated pricing models and collaborate with specialist underwriters to assess multimillion-dollar deals.

You must be commercially minded, have a very strong technical background and be able to communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences clearly and succinctly. You will enjoy working in a supportive but fast-paced environment which values and acts upon actuarial insights.

The role will involve taking ownership of the pricing of specific classes of business, tbc depending on preference and experience. Management and development of junior members of the team will be expected in due course.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Ownership of the pricing of specific classes. This will involve fully understanding the dynamics of the class, how it is rated and every element of how the pricing model works.
  • Propose enhancements to the pricing model/rating structure based on independent research and discussions with the wider team.
  • Be a point of contact for underwriters on technical pricing matters.
  • Work with other actuaries and underwriters on the pricing of large accounts across the Canopius portfolio.
  • Contribute to the development of our new pricing platform in Python.
  • Manage and develop junior members of the team in due course.
Skills and experience:
  • Very strong knowledge of specialty (re)insurance pricing techniques.
  • A commercial mindset.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Familiarity with Broker Portfolio Solutions and/or Downstream Energy is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Python
