Overview

This Assistant Vice President and Lead Actuarial Data Analyst position is responsible for creating/managing data pipelines, delivering on reporting projects, and positioning Commercial Insurance (CI) Actuarial team to maximize analytical insights in support of the Commercial Insurance Division. The role is based in our Whitehouse Station, NJ office (location flexible) and reports to the Data, Systems, & Strategy Lead for CI Actuarial. There is flexibility to fill this position at a lower job grade for a qualified candidate with less than 7 years of experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide data preparation and data management support to Commercial Insurance Actuarial Team across all product lines
  • Develop dashboards and analytical tools to support actuarial rate monitoring and underwriting portfolio monitoring
  • Work with the IT and predictive analytics teams to support strategic initiatives
  • Help identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Special projects and other ad-hoc requests

Education and Experience
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in data, analytics, actuarial work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with Property & Casualty actuaries, preferred but not required
  • Experience processing and manipulating various types of data, including policy and claim level data.
  • Extensive experience in working with relational databases and proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and/or leveraging Spark-based frameworks for data analysis and manipulation.
  • Demonstrated experience using data visualization tools like Qlik, Looker, Tableau, or equivalent software to effectively communicate insights and findings visually.
  • Familiarity with fundamental concepts in statistics and data science, including statistical analysis, data modeling, machine learning, and data exploration techniques.


Required Skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills essential for success in this role.
    • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in data analysis and manipulation, such as Python, R, Scala, or similar languages.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple deliverables and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including clear and concise verbal and written communication with stakeholders at various organizational levels.
