Responsibilities

Responsible and accountable for strategic and operational activities associated with the management of the Environmental (Site Specific Pollution) division of a Specific Line of Business (Auto & WC) with the development of new products, programs and program management underwriting. In this capacity, ensures that results for each specific line of business enhances overall profitability, growth and retention of BSUM's business and are consistent with all related underwriting initiatives.

  • Ensure that results for each product line assigned supports the overall profitability, growth and retention of business and are consistent with all related underwriting initiatives.
  • Develop and ensure effective utilization of detailed monitoring standards to assess underwriting results on production and loss results down to the account level (i.e., profitability analysis, quarterly loss trends, utilization/productivity, etc.) and takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Assist in the maintenance of forms and rate filings for specific segment of business. This includes working with the state filings and actuarial/regulatory staff to prepare initial form and rate filings as well as subsequent related responses to Insurance Departments.
  • Handle line of business referrals from Regional Vice Presidents, underwriters and program administrators in a professional & timely manner.
  • Effectively mentor and coach marketing/underwriting staffs to ensure production, underwriting standards and profitability objectives are achieved.
  • Analyze market needs and trends as they impact underwriting & marketing initiatives and provide competitor information to management & underwriting staff.
  • Perform all related staff management functions as necessary and in response to expense management objectives.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal resources (i.e., Claims, Operations, Systems, Reinsurance, etc.) to ensure delivery of all related services to clients.
  • Develop and direct responsible training efforts to underwriters that are consistent with business strategies.
  • Assist in conducting regional & program administrator annual underwriting audits.
  • Verify the integrity of underwriting performance, along with staying current by conducting routine peer reviews files.
  • Communicate and enhance the flow of internal operations and maintain communications with claim, actuarial and other supporting departments.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of customer service.


Qualifications

  • 15 plus years of progressive commercial lines underwriting experience.
  • CPCU designation Preferred.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Experience with utilizing available tools in risk selection, pricing and account management.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time in the performance of duties.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and email systems.


Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (Prefer in Risk Management or Environmental Sciences).
