Overview

The Decision Support Associate Analyst position provides analytic training in the Date Resource Department at Nationwide Children's Hospital, a private nonprofit pediatric teaching hospital. The Associate is encouraged to develop skills in relational database design, SQL programming and summarization of patient volume and market data. The Associate will work with Planning, Regional Development, Community Wellness, other hospital departments to ensure the availability of timely and accurate information, upon which strategic and programmatic decisions will be made. Types of reporting include patient volumes, budget projections, utilization management, business surveys, and quality initiatives. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, quick to pick up new skills and has an interest in healthcare analytics.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. This is a temporary 12-month position starting in May/June 2024 and ending in May/June 2025.

Responsibilities

The Associate will be exposed to:
  • Gaining experience in a wide range of healthcare analytics by working with 3 levels of DRC preceptors (entry level, mid- level and senior analysts).
  • Learning HIPAA rules and regulations regarding the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Participating in collaborative meetings with hospital staff to meet goals, objectives and responsibilities.
  • Writing SQL code and summarizing patient volume data to provide meaningful information.
  • Developing dashboards using Qlik or similar software tools.
  • Supporting production and evaluation of data for strategic plans, market assessments, business plans and quality measures.
  • Analyzing healthcare utilization trends and performance of hospital/physician networks for efficient and timely healthcare delivery.
  • Conducting research and developing analyses of services by hospital and competitors, creating service line dashboards and competitor profile data sets.
  • Training on various tools Business Objects/Web Intelligence, SQL, mapping software, and QlikSense.
  • Using accepted procedures for identifying data issues and testing solutions and data enhancements.
  • Understanding data feeds from source systems and ensuring data integrity by cross checking outputs.
  • Working with Information Services on data integrity issues
  • Participating in definition of scope/methodology for information requests by gathering information from stakeholders.
  • Displaying data to clients in user-friendly format.
  • Learning concepts of continuous improvement to develop new skills during change initiatives.
  • Receiving and using feedback in order to enhance professional growth.
  • Developing and maintaining technical and professional skills.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Recent graduate of Bachelor's or Master's program. Possible fields of study include Health Information Management, Hospital/Health Administration, Business Administration, Planning, Statistics, Health Informatics, Accounting, Finance, Actuary Science or other related field.
  • Familiarity with data management systems, spreadsheet and presentation software.
  • Analytical skills to assemble, evaluate and understand large and complex information sets, and to identify current and future trends.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to effectively interact with hospital staff and external contacts.
  • Intellectual curiosity and strong attention to detail.


Minimum Physical Requirements:

Physical ability to tolerate a high percentage of time in sedentary work at a desk.
